Some More of God’s Greatest Mistakes

if i were a dream pirate in kindergarten, cont.

okay, this is everything that happened.

first what happened was that one of the boys in my class had a ball he brought in.  it was a cool big rainbow one, and he was showing it to me and some of the other boys there while we were playing with the blocks.  i was making a dream ship out of blocks and showing them how to throw spears at wild animals and hooks to get the valuable treasure.  then one of the boys got out this ball he brought from home and another little boy tried to grab it, and he threw it up on a really high shelf!

it was really high up but i saw a way to get it.  so i told the little boy whose ball it was that i could get it.  i went over to the teachers desk and i climbed on her chair and on to her desk and from her desk i climed on to the counter that had the sinks on it and then i ran to the end of the counter and i jumped across on to the counter underneath the cabinets and then i climed up on some boxes and on to the cabinets and i was just about to jump across to the high shelf where the ball was when the teacher caught up to me.  she had to stand on a chair to get to me and i tried to tell her about the ball but she just was not happy to get it right then.

the teacher said i was to stay inside for recess as my consequence for climbing up on cabinets when her back was turned.  so me and the teacher came back to class after lunch and she gave me some paper to draw on quietly until recess was over.

i like drawing a lot so i didn’t mind that much not getting to go out to recess.  first i drew my tricycle, then i drew the dream ship, and then i drew a picture of a pink elephant with a big penis who was trying to have sex with a little man in the corner of the paper.  and when the teacher came to look at my drawings she took that last one away and put it in her desk drawer.

and that’s everything that happened.  i have no idea what could possibly have made her tell you that i was not a good fit for her class and asked you to find a different school for me to go to instead of that one, honest!

does this mean i get to stay here with you and daddy on the dream ship?

Are you sure nemorah’s name is not Curious George? I can see her swinging toward that ball.
What kind of kindergarten would be just right for nemorah?
I wonder what the teacher did with the little elephant, big penis drawing.
Anyway, minorah belongs in a progressive school, wouldn’t you say?
If you get a chance to, read my notes of this morning attached to yesterdays chapter re: clarifying thoughts for Sunday. Of course Sunday is not the only day to communicate, so don’t feel pressured to get it right or on the table tomorrow. A psychiatrist I was seeing, once or more reminded me that when one first hears something an emotional reaction sets in. Sometimes it takes a few days to calm down and see with clearer eyes, so don’t get thrown by any particular reaction when you first bring up a subject.
Also, everything said or seen can have a number of interpretations. Don’t imagine you know where certain comments or reactions are coming from. And don’t assume they understand right away what you are trying to share with them. It may take some back and forth work. Communication is not anywhere near as straight forward as we sometimes imagine. Anyway, blessings for the process (you be in charge of the process, please).

what i’d like to know is, who really threw that ball up into that high, hard to reach place? was it some other little boy? or was it tenorah herself?

i honestly don’t know the answer, but if i did i think i’d have a better understanding of this character.

is she brave and impulsive and irrepressible? or is she also to some extent calculating and manipulative- did she throw the ball up there herself and when getting caught climbing up on cabinets wasn’t enough to get herself sent back to the dream ship, did she figure maybe drawing a picture the teacher would be shocked by might do the trick?

i think i’m ready to move on to new subjects for my next story, but i suspect we’ll hear from tenorah again. she’s such a strong personality, definitely wants the spotlight.

Good, we like tenorah. She probably has all the characteristics you mentioned.
Clever strategy to get kicked out of kindergarten!
I never thought of that!

p.s. as you may know my granddaughter is Jewish. Yes, I told you so and her Jewish name. Whenever I see tenorah, it makes me think of Menorah. Passover is this month. Passover to where?

it’s funny that you mixed up her name, because one of the reasons she was dead set against staying in kindergarten was because the teacher kept calling her “nora” even after tenorah corrected her. mixing it up with menorah is nowhere near as bad as someone insisting that she have a conventional name like nora, though.

i’m not sure how much of her getting kicked out of kindergarten was strategy and how much was luck, but she was definitely not ready to leave the dream ship and her pirate ways behind.
