things could be worse if i had found out something profoundly disturbing about reality but i couldn’t tell anyone!
Have you ever seen someone who just didn’t quite fit? A man, perhaps, who stood and walked and moved like a CEO, but was dressed as a laborer? A well-dressed woman sprawling in her seat, legs uncrossed, designer purse carelessly left on the dirty floor of the subway train? If you’ve ever seen someone out of place you probably didn’t give it a second thought, but it was a watchwinder.
The real world consists of 3 large cities and less than 100 small towns. Everything else is just special effects put on for our benefit by the watchwinders. Have you ever been to Paris? Paris is actually a small theme park within a large, domed building within one of the 3 cities. No one really lives there, but they keep up the illusion for tourists because otherwise it would be hard to keep the lie that we live on a large planet orbiting a yellow colored star.
Don’t believe me? You can prove it to yourself fairly easily. When you go out in public, make a point of really looking at the other people. If you do this consistently it won’t take long for you to see how often the faces recycle. The woman you saw on your way to work last Tuesday will turn up at the supermarket on Sunday and the park on the 4th of July. What you now think is a population of hundreds of thousands in your city is really a few hundred, or at most a couple thousand if you think you live in New York City.

Happy Birthday, Vanessa.
For some reason, this story is my favorite. For some reason I drew a very sharp picture in my mind with this story. I almost now believe it to be true.
Sometimes I wonder to myself, “Are we real? Is this a dream? Do other people’s internal dialogues sound anything like mine? ” It’s all so weird.
Comment by Mrs. B March 21, 2008 @ 8:21 pmi’m so glad you liked this one and said you liked it! its one of the ones i was thinking might be a good candidate to try and turn into a larger project, maybe a proper short story with a plot and everything?
Comment by vive42 March 22, 2008 @ 1:45 amI definitely like it. Could see it as a story, a novel, or who knows? A movie! Who is playing the lead? I’m thinking someone who can play this kind of weirdness well….How about Jim Carrey? He’s a pretty compelling dramatic actor. He really throws me when he plays a straight role. I think if he were a woman, he would have had a high risk of an eating disorder. His brain is on hyperdrive.
Comment by Mrs. B March 22, 2008 @ 4:30 amYes, develop the ideas in this story. It has such cool ideas.

If you’re moved to do more with the story, Ill be looking forward to the trip.
